Folding boxboard, also referred to as FBB, is a paperboard grade made up of multiple layers of chemical and mechanical pulp. For example, it might have a bleached chemical top, mechanical pulp center, and bleached or semi bleached chemical back. The top is coated with two layers of coating. The benefits of this multi-layered FBB lies in the construction itself. The outer layers of sulphate pulp with its application of a double coating provide the foundation for a smooth surface which is finished by machine glazing to meet the high demands of printing and foiling. The middle layers consisting of mechanical pulp provides high bulk and stiffness. It is a good substitute for SBS board in various applications including food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and graphical products.
